Does imitation increase or decrease demand for an original product? Understanding the opposing effects of discovery and substitution

چکیده
Abstract Research Summary This article studies how the entry of an imitative product influences demand for original, in markets with a large number products where consumers are not aware most products. We suggest that release triggers two countervailing forces: discovery effect increases awareness and substitution decreasing demand. When imitation is horizontally differentiated, weaker, leads to increased particularly so when original less well‐known. However, vertically does benefit decreases given effect. test our theory context 3D‐printable Managerial Imitative typically harm performance product. part rationale deterring by acquiring intellectual property (IP) rights. as we demonstrate, may increase product, therefore it. In products, compete attention, serve channel through which attention spills over from original. more pronounced suggests that, under certain conditions, firms pursuing open IP strategy encourages imitation. Examples marketplaces include those music, e‐books, software, mobile apps.

Does self - consciousness increase or decrease priming effects ? It depends
Self-consciousness has been shown to both increase and decrease the magnitude of prime-to-behavior effects. In this paper, we decouple the facets of self-consciousness into internal state awareness and self-reflectiveness and show that self-consciousness can be associated with multiple influences on automatic behavior. Specifically, we conducted an experiment demonstrating that increased intern...

15 صفحه اولVolume Flexibility, Product Flexibility, or Both: The Role of Demand Correlation and Product Substitution
We analyze volume flexibility — the ability to produce above/below the installed capacity for a product — under endogenous pricing in a two-product setting. We discover that the value of volume flexibility is a function of demand correlation between products, an outcome which cannot be explained by classical risk-pooling arguments. Furthermore, while the value of product flexibility always decr...
متن کاملdevelopment and implementation of an optimized control strategy for induction machine in an electric vehicle
in the area of automotive engineering there is a tendency to more electrification of power train. in this work control of an induction machine for the application of electric vehicle is investigated. through the changing operating point of the machine, adapting the rotor magnetization current seems to be useful to increase the machines efficiency. in the literature there are many approaches wh...
